The Registry

The System Registry contains all the settings that make your PC function, all the user settings, network, hardware settings and as such it is the LAST THING TO GO FRIGGING AROUND WITH IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING! and there's a strong probability that you don't.

It's not the intention to take you into the registry in depth, not least because i'm no expert, however it's one part of the computer that you should at least be aware of.

A view of part of the registry

To access the registry, start by ‘clicking’ on the button on the taskbar (usually at the bottom of the screen) and when the menu appears type Regedit and press the enter key, this starts the registry editor .

Here we see the registry editor open. I've selected the the Primary key 'HKEY-CURRENT_CONFIG', then opened up a few levels below it to show how convoluted it can be.

I backed up the registry of one of my PCs and look at the size of it, 62.1 MB.

By all means explore the Registry but, Remember, any changes you make are instant, There's no 'Save As' option .
